You might not think that working in an office has many health risks, but that’s where you would be wrong.
While there’s little chance that you’re going to fall off a ladder or get your fingers caught in a machine while working in an office, you are still at risk of other health problems, such as depression, eye strain, and back problems.
Luckily, there are some simple ways to combat this. If you work in an office and want to prioritize your health, use these four tips.
1: Limit Your Screen Time
Too much screen time is bad for your eyes. Not only will you experience eye strain, but you’ll also end up getting headaches if you spend too long in front of a computer without breaks.
Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about limiting your screen time while at work if you’re in an office, but you can make sure your home life doesn’t involve too much of it.
After a long day at work, try to do a non-screen-related activity that involves fresh air, such as walking.
Also, using computer glasses can help your eyes when you can’t get away from the screen.
2: Walk or Bike to the Office
Being overweight or obese can cause a myriad of health problems, including heart disease and diabetes.
For office workers, this is a particular concern, as you don’t have a naturally active job to keep you in shape.
To help with this, consider walking or biking to work each day. If you live too far for this to be feasible, you can always just do half of the journey like this. It all counts!
3: Get Plenty of Exercises
Walking or biking to work doesn’t have to be your only form of exercise.
Once you’ve finished work for the day, make an effort to pursue an activity that gets your body moving and heart pumping.
There are plenty of clubs you could join that’ll make exercise fun, such as:
- Spinning Class
- Rock Climbing
Wherever your interests lie, there’ll be a hobby you can pursue to get you moving.
Plus, you gain the additional benefit of making new friends and having something to look forward to outside of work!
4: Watch What You Eat
Another bad habit of many office workers is eating too many sugary snacks throughout the day.
It’s understandable – when you need that instant boost in the mid-afternoon, it’s all too tempting to reach for that chocolate bar or packet of crisps.
This will only damage your health long-term, though, and the energy you gain from it will vanish quite quickly.
Instead, pack yourself some healthysnacks to munch on throughout the day, such as carrot sticks with hummus and pieces of fruit.
Keep a water bottle by your desk, too, to ensure you’re well hydrated.
Staying healthy as an office worker is all about staying active, eating well, and getting enough fresh air.
By using these four tips, you’ll soon nail all three.
